Guidelines for Group Study Room Use

Purpose

The Eastfield College Library provides group study rooms to support collaborative and cooperative study among students at Eastfield College and any of the other Dallas County Community College District (DCCCD) campuses. The following guidelines convey acceptable use of group study rooms. All users are expected to adhere to these guidelines in addition to all other library guidelines and the DCCCD Code of Student Conduct.

Guidelines

  • Group study rooms may only be reserved by a currently enrolled DCCCD student.
  • A minimum of two people must remain in the group study room at all times. One of these two people must be the currently enrolled DCCCD student the group study room is assigned to. If less than two people are left in a group study room for an extended period of time, the group’s session will be terminated and the group will be ask to immediately vacate. Empty group study rooms will be considered abandoned. The group’s session will be terminated and any belongings left behind will be taken to Campus Police (Room N112).
  • Group study rooms are checked out in two hour increments. The group study room may be renewed every two hours, if available, by the student who checked out the room at the Circulation Desk. Failure to renew can result in the forfeiture of the room.
  • Group study rooms must be vacated 15 minutes prior to the Library closing.
  • Group study rooms are not sound proof therefore noise should be kept to a minimum at all times. Windows should remain uncovered and lights should be on at all times.

  • Group study rooms are for academic purposes only. Student clubs and organizations are not allowed to meet in group study rooms and should contact the Office of Student Engagement & Retention (OSER) to set up a meeting space (972-860-7199; Room C237).

  • Commercial use of group study rooms, such as using group study rooms to conduct private business, is strictly prohibited. For commercial use of campus facilities, contact 972-860-7603.

  • The student who checked out the group study room is to notify circulation staff when the group has finished and has vacated the group study room. The group study room key must be returned at this time. Failure to return the group study room key will result in a BLOCK on the student’s account and the student will be assessed a $25.00 fee.
  • Advance reservations of group study rooms are restricted to Eastfield College student groups. Failure to appear within 15 minutes of a reservation will result in forfeiture of the reservation.
  • The Library reserves the right to refuse or terminate the use of group study rooms by any persons or groups who violate these guidelines.
